Yarrabilba is planned for up to 50,000 people
EDQ says the Priority Development Area, declared on 8 October 2010, will house a population of up to 50,000 people when fully developed, a process it expects to take 20 to 30 years. What you control is how well yours is kept, and how clearly you can see it. Living in Yarrabilba
Yarrabilba's name means "place of song"
Yarrabilba’s name comes from the Wangerriburra and Bundjalung language for "place of song". The area had two bora rings where ceremonies involving singing took place. The Canungra railway line ran through the district until it closed in 1955. In World War II the US Army’s Camp Cable held up to 35,000 soldiers at one time, and from 1966 a slash pine plantation was grown in what was Kairabah.
The Buzz is a community centre in the suburb, operated by the YMCA, and opened in December 2022. A Coles supermarket is mapped in the suburb, and so are Darlington Parklands, McKinnon Sports Park, Borrol Lookout Park, Camp Cable Park, Buxton Lake, a dog park, a community garden and Plunkett Conservation Park.

Schools
Yarrabilba has its own state secondary college
State primary schools: the suburb is split between the South Rock State School and Yarrabilba State School catchments, with a small part in the Cedar Creek State School catchment. South Rock opened at the start of 2023, built in its first stage for about 800 students and for more than 1,300 when complete.
State secondary schools: the whole suburb is in the catchment of Yarrabilba State Secondary College, which opened in 2020, for Years 7 to 12.
Non-state schools in Yarrabilba: St Clare’s Primary School (Catholic, Prep to Year 6) and San Damiano College (Catholic, Years 7 to 12). Nearby: King’s Christian College in Chambers Flat (Prep to Year 12) and Logan Village State School.
Catchments change, and the boundary follows streets, not suburbs. Check any address on the Queensland Government’s school catchment map before you rely on it.

Three things a Yarrabilba owner can look up
- Flood maps: Logan City Council’s flood maps page and the Logan Flood Portal show flood information for an address. The council endorsed changes to its flood overlay on 6 October 2026; they are not yet in effect.
- Who decides development: Economic Development Queensland assesses development applications in the Yarrabilba Priority Development Area, under a development scheme last amended on 28 February 2025.
- One suburb name: on 18 July 2025 the State decided to discontinue the locality name Kairabah and add its area to Yarrabilba, giving the whole Priority Development Area a single suburb name.
